About the Scholars:

Dana Kerr, MD — Duke

Dana KerrDana Kerr, MD is currently a PGY-2 Diagnostic Radiology Resident at Duke University. She studied neuroscience at Washington University where upon graduation she was not only inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society but also ranked #1 in her class. In medical school at Duke, Dana had a repeat stellar performance and continues a path of excellence as a leader in our residency program. She is well rounded, enjoying many outdoor activities such as running, kayaking, skiing, and tennis. Dana lights up the room no matter where she is - always smiling and positive with words of encouragement to anyone in need of some extra support. She is a talented radiologist and an extraordinary human being. - Karen Johnson, MD

Dean Homen, MD — UNC

dean homenDean Homen is a second-year radiology resident at UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC. He came to UNC by way of the “great state of Texas” (his words!) After college, he worked as an operating room technician. During that time, many of the surgeons he worked with persuaded him not to pursue a career in healthcare and to instead go into dentistry or work on Wall Street. As a result, undeterred to get a medical education, he enrolled in a dual MD/MBA program in hopes it would allow him to more actively participate in advocacy for current and future physicians. He is excited to attend the ACR meeting as a NC scholar and continue his advocacy interest. In his spare time he spends time with his family and recently bought a boat that he enjoys taking around Jordan lake. Dean has the right mix of personality, gregariousness, curiosity, and enthusiasm to succeed in this pathway. - Peter Bream, MD

Lynn DellaGrotta, MD — Wake Forest

“Our NCRS ACR Resident Scholar, Dr. Lynn DellaGrotta, is very devoted to being  involved in the ACR. Lynn is already a leader locally at our institution. She is the Chair of the Wake Forest Resident Quality Council for our entire institution and serves as the resident representative on the institution's GME Committee representing all of the residents for all specialties on issues affecting resident education and training, wellness, and patient safety and quality improvement. Lynn is devoted to increasing exposure of the field of radiology for medical students and she runs the institution's medical student shadowing portion of our medical student Radiology Scholars Certificate Program. Lynn is also an active member of our department's Women in Radiology Group. At Wake Forest, we feel very fortunate that a radiologist of Lynn's quality is passionate about the ACR's missions---the future is bright with people like Lynn in our specialty." - Carol Geer, MD

Jessica Houk, MD — Duke

ScreenshoHouk

"Dr Jessica Houk is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine where she served as Chair of the Women in Radiology student interest group and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.  She began her residency in radiology at Duke in 2017 and has been a strong female leader from the beginning and serves as a role model to all residents.  Jess is kind, hard-working, and a radiology superstar - she probably has more cases placed into our "Great Calls" folder by faculty than any other R2 at Duke!" -- Karen Johnson, MD

Elizabeth Deans, MD — UNC

“Dr. Elizabeth Deans has quickly and effortlessly established herself as a leader amongst her peers. She is a joy to have in the reading room and is a ‘go-to’ person for her junior residents and colleagues. We at UNC are very eager to watch as her career in radiology unfolds and she is most deserving of this recognition. She is smart, she is kind, she is a new mom to Molly – and Liz has excelled in all she balances!" - Cody Schwartz, MD
